The Marbury Law Group, PLLC, is seeking an experienced, highly qualified patent prosecution paralegal for our Reston, Virginia, office. While our preference is to hire a candidate based in the DMV area (working onsite Tuesday through Thursday with optional telework on Monday and Friday), we will consider fully remote candidates.

Position Overview




We are seeking an experienced patent paralegal to support a busy and sophisticated U.S. patent prosecution practice focused primarily on chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and life sciences technologies. This is a position for someone who has a working knowledge of USPTO procedures, forms, filing requirements, and Patent Center, and is comfortable managing the details and deadlines associated with a high-volume U.S. patent prosecution docket.




This position is full-time, but we would consider an experienced part-time candidate (minimum 22 hours per week).




The successful candidate will join an established team of highly knowledgeable patent paralegals with well-developed procedures and workflows already in place. We are looking for someone who can become productive quickly, work effectively within existing processes, collaborate closely with the team, and integrate seamlessly into a busy practice.




Experience & Qualifications




The ideal candidate will have:

At least five years of substantive U.S. patent prosecution paralegal experience, ideally in a law firm environmentKnowledge of USPTO rules, procedures, forms, and Patent CenterExperience preparing and filing IDSs and other USPTO prosecution documentsThorough familiarity with U.S. patent prosecution procedures throughout the life of an application, from initial filing through issuanceExperience with continuation, divisional, and continuation-in-part practiceExperience managing substantial or complex U.S. patent prosecution dockets and related patent familiesStrong familiarity with USPTO filing requirements, procedural deadlines, and prosecution formalitiesExceptional attention to detail and an appreciation for the importance of accuracy in patent prosecutionThe ability to manage numerous deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced practiceThe judgment to recognize potential procedural or filing issues and raise them promptlyStrong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills A collaborative, team-oriented approachDuties & Responsibilities




Responsibilities will include, among other things:

Supporting attorneys in all aspects of U.S. patent prosecution before the USPTOPreparing and filing original, continuing, and divisional patent applications and prosecution-related submissions through Patent CenterPreparing and processing IDSs, including reviewing citation information, preparing appropriate USPTO forms, and coordinating citation of references across related U.S. applicationsPreparing and filing Application Data Sheets, inventor declarations, powers of attorney, assignments, and recordation documents, petitions, responses to Notices to File Missing Parts, issue-fee submissions, and other USPTO forms and prosecution documentsReviewing and processing USPTO correspondence, including filing receipts, Office Actions, restriction requirements, Notices of Allowance, Notices to File Missing Parts, and other USPTO noticesMonitoring, calculating, and confirming U.S. prosecution deadlines and ensuring that required filings are completed accurately and on timeMaintaining accurate information concerning priority claims, related applications, inventorship, applicant information, entity status, and other bibliographic informationManaging complex U.S. patent families and ensuring consistency among related applicationsReviewing filing documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with USPTO requirementsMaintaining accurate electronic files and docket informationCoordinating closely with attorneys, docketing personnel, other patent paralegals, and administrative staffIdentifying potential filing, procedural, or deadline issues and bringing them to the attention of the responsible attorney or team member before they become problemsSalary




Depending on experience, the salary range is $90,000-$115,000 for full-time, with a minimum annual billable requirement of 1300 hours.
