The 10 U.S. practices with the most USPTO-registered patent attorneys and agents on the September 2026 roster, with each firm's change since September 2025.

September 2026 review: what moved in the patent practitioner rankings

The September 2026 USPTO roster lists 53,637 registered patent practitioners: 38,395 patent attorneys and 14,688 patent agents. That is +127 (+0.2%) from the August 2026 roster, and +1,085 (+2.1%) against September 2025. Patent agents are 27.4% of the roster, up from 26.9% in September 2025.

At the top of the ranking, Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett Dunner (234 registered practitioners), Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (234), and Fish & Richardson P.C (219) lead the September 2026 roster. The table above shows the top ten, and every firm links to its page with offices and practitioners.

Since the August 2026 roster, the biggest gains among the 25 largest firms were at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP (+5, to 102), Greenberg Traurig, LLP (+2, to 132), and Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks P.C. (+1, to 110). The largest declines were at Foley & Lardner, LLP (−3, to 218), Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP (−2, to 208), and Perkins Coie LLP (−2, to 111).

Over twelve months, the fastest-growing large firms were Womble Bond Dickinson (Us) LLP (+11.5%, +10 practitioners), Dinsmore & Shohl LLP (+10.9%, +10 practitioners), and Fenwick & West LLP (+10.2%, +10 practitioners). The sharpest contractions were at Perkins Coie LLP (−26.5%, −40), Alston & Bird LLP (−6.5%, −7), and Morrison & Foerster LLP (−5.6%, −10).

Rank changes since September 2025: Womble Bond Dickinson (Us) LLP moved from #31 to #24, Dinsmore & Shohl LLP moved from #26 to #21, and Fenwick & West LLP moved from #24 to #20. (Ranks compare each firm's count with the other firms in this table on each roster.)

The USPTO added 147 new practitioners to the roster in September 2026 (10 attorneys, 75 agents), against an average of 156 a month over the previous 12 months. New practitioners by month has the full series.

California has the most registered practitioners, 9,580. Among states with at least 200 a year earlier, Nevada grew fastest (+4.6% since September 2025). Practitioners by state has every state, and the map goes down to cities.
