The USPTO Patent Bar Exam (officially the Examination for Registration to Practice in Patent Cases Before the United States Patent and Trademark Office) is a computer-based, open-book test administered by Prometric. Candidates have access to a searchable version of the MPEP during the exam. The test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions over 6 hours, with approximately a 70% score needed to pass. Questions are drawn from across the MPEP, with particularly heavy coverage of Parts 700 (Examination of Applications) and 100/200 (General Information and Types of Applications).
