Patent bar review programs
How to evaluate a patent bar program
Pass rate is the only metric that matters
The USPTO overall pass rate was 46% in FY2025 and averaged 47% from 2012 to 2025. Any program worth using should be willing to publish its own outcome data and explain how it is measured. Wysebridge publishes its tracked student results dating back to 2012.
Where questions come from changes how well you prepare
Questions written specifically for a prep course often differ from real USPTO exam questions in phrasing and structure. Training on real historical exam questions is more predictive of actual performance.
Price the cost of a retake into your decision
Each retake costs $447 in fees ($226 USPTO examination + $221 Prometric). A $1,500 course with a lower pass rate than a $299 course is not a bargain when you factor in the cost of retaking.
