The question bank

8 complete exams — the entire official record

The USPTO has released official patent bar exam questions on only a handful of occasions. The last public release was in 2003. No new official questions have been released since — meaning the publicly available exam record is fixed and complete.

Wysebridge includes every question from every one of those official releases: eight full exam administrations from 1999 through 2003, covering both AM and PM sessions. That's 800 questions — the entire official question corpus that candidates have ever had access to.

We supplement them with 1,500+ additional questions written to cover post-AIA law and MPEP sections most heavily tested in the modern exam — bringing the total to 2,500 questions.

Why no new official questions since 2003?

The history

In the early 2000s the USPTO periodically released past exam questions as study material. The final release came in 2003. Since then, the agency has kept all exam content confidential to prevent question-memorization strategies from replacing genuine legal knowledge.

What this means for prep

Any prep program selling "original" or "real" questions is drawing from the same pre-2003 pool. The actual advantage lies not in having the questions, but in understanding the rules they test — and how those rules have changed since 2003.

How we handle it

Wysebridge gives you all 800 official questions in full, then supplements them with 1,000 additional questions written to cover post-AIA updates. Together they provide the broadest preparation available for the current exam.

Updated for current law

Original questions. Answers updated to September 2025 regulations.

Patent law has changed substantially since 2003. The America Invents Act, new MPEP editions, and revised examination guidelines have changed the correct answer to some of the original questions — even where the question text itself hasn't changed.

Wysebridge preserves every original question exactly as released. Then, for each question where the law has evolved, we provide an updated answer explanation that tells you:

  • What the original correct answer was — and why it was correct under the rules at the time
  • What the correct answer is under current MPEP 9th Ed. (September 2025 revision)
  • What rule or statute changed, and when

Example — Question from 2002 exam

Under the broadest reasonable interpretation standard, a claim term not defined in the specification should be given which meaning?
SEPT 2025

Its broadest reasonable interpretation consistent with the specification, as understood by one of ordinary skill in the art. Answer C — unchanged under MPEP 9th Ed. (Sept. 2025) § 2111.

2002

Same correct answer. Explanation updated to cite MPEP 9th Ed. (Sept. 2025 revision) rather than the 7th Ed. in use at the time.

Every question explanation links directly to the MPEP section it tests
